ACHIEVEMENTS of Boort District School students were recognised at Monday’s awards’ evening.
The night was a celebration of academic and sporting success for the school community.
Phoebe Malone was presented with the Cobram Estate Scholarship for 2023 Dux. Other awards Mia Braun (Insight), Braedon Niven (VET), Eliza Perryman (Nutrien Ag), Eddie Moresi (Don Kerr). Australian Defence Force Awards went to Harry Malone (Year 10) and Phoebe Malone (Year 12). The Cobram Estate community award was presented to Alyssa Boyd.
Eddie Moresi, Lucy Malone and Eliza Perryman were announced as the school’s 2024 captains.
Said principal Lee-Anne Sherwell: “Boort District School got back to pre-Covid activities and events with some highlights being the two theatre trips to Melbourne to see Mary Poppins and Moulin Rouge.
“Our Year 4 to Year 6 students experienced a free camp to Beechworth and the Secondary students had  great experiences on work experience, at the Torquay surf camp on all the outdoor education camps and the multitude of other activities that are conducted throughout a school year.
“Our Parents’ Club is small but active and are in the process of planning a fete for early in 2024. We all look forward to inviting the community onsite for this celebration.”
During Monday’s award evening, Mrs Sherwell acknowledged families leaving the school as their youngest finishes school. “We thank them for allowing us the opportunity to support their children in their years of learning while at this school and acknowledge their involvement with us: the Doyle family, the Talaid family, the Whykes family, the Featherby family and Baker family.”
Mrs Sherwell said every staff member at the P-12 school was proud of everything the Year 12 students had achieved. “All your teachers, the education support staff, the families and the other students celebrate with you. We look forward to hearing from you as you take on pathways away from school.
“We look forward to 2024 and the changes that will come from this. As staff move on to other pursuits and as I retire, I wish everyone the best for the future and hope that the new principal will receive the same friendly welcome that I received.”
