Mark Hands, CEO of Goldfields Libraries, acknowledges the challenges faced by seniors in keeping up with technology and digital trends.
“Over the past few years, there’s been a huge shift in how we go about our daily tasks and connect through technology. This can be particularly challenging for older community members who can often feel overwhelmed, isolated or excluded from their family and community.”
With Victorians over 50 making up 35 per cent of library visitors and those over 70 accounting for 17 per cent, libraries are perfectly placed to help.
“While we offer one-on-one tech support at all our libraries already, the additional funding means we can offer more opportunities specifically for seniors.”
“Our staff are friendly and patient, and can help with a range of tasks, including how to set up and use your device, access the internet, set up emails, manage passwords, take and edit photos and show you tips to help keep your device safe from scammers. You tell us what you need, and we’ll do our best to help.”
