Sandbag preparation ahead of weekend’s third rain bomb
1 min read

SAND is this afternoon being delivered in the Wedderburn district ahead of the weekend's forecast third major rain bomb in a fortnight.

The sand for use in bagging to protect already battered properties will be at the Jacka Park carpark in Wedderburn, Wedderburn SES headquarters and outside Korong Vale fire station.

People wanting  bags should contact the SES.

Delivery of sand has come hours after an SES rescue was stationed at the SES headquarters in Nardoo Court. It is the first time a vehicle has been stationed in town since the local unit became effectively dormant late last year.

Sandbags will be available -

The district could receive up to 100mm of rain over the weekend with heaviest falls predicted for Sunday.

Some local districts have already received more than 250mm since Christmas Eve, triggering flooding on Christmas Day and again around Wedderburn on Tuesday.

Police and SES continue to warn motorists not to drive through floodwaters. There have been multiple rescues this week with one Wedderburn man, 60, roped to safety after his vehicle became stuck in flood Tantalla Sreeet on Tuesday and was propelled 500 metres down the Nardoo Creek.

He was taken to hospital suffering hypothermia and police said the man was lucky to have survived spending an hour stuck in the creek.
