STUDENTS walked 2km around the grounds of East Loddon P12 College on Friday raising mental health awareness.
The walk was the idea of four students who attended the School for Student Leadership earlier this year - Emily Sinclair, Keira Tuohey, Will Hunt and Riley Wagner.
Walk for Mental Health became their community service project.
The students arranged for Let’s Chat Mental Health Awareness founder Bryan Coghlan to speak before the walk.
He spoke at a school assembly on little steps Students could take to promote their mental health.
Bryan asked the school community to encourage and be open to having the conversation about mental health and develop strategies to help “yourself and others through the challenges of life”.
The student leaders provided prompts throughout the walk which encouraged useful questions to raise in conversation along the 2km path.
Senior sub-school leader Sarah Krahe said: “It truly was a magical sight to see, with hundreds of students, staff and community members walking the track talking, listening and interacting with each other. A great way to spend our assembly time and recess.”
The focus of School for Student Leadership is to promote leadership skills and initiative.
Principal Steve Leed said the four had returned from the course with thoughtful ideas to involve the school community in their Walk for Mental Health, developing the community project while participating in the program.
