SIX months into her term as Inglewood Ward councillor, Loddon Shire’s Miki Wilson on Saturday held a town hall-style community meeting.
More than 30 residents turned out to share their ideas for Inglewood and hear a report from Cr Wilson on key local projects.
Cr Wilson said she had wanted to lift engagement with the community on council matters.
“It’s grassroots engagement ... talking to the community, going into shops and making yourself available. It’s the most important thing a councillor can do,” Cr Wilson said.
“The community meeting, something that has been done in other council areas, lets the community come and ask you questions and is an opportunity for us all to share information.”
Cr Wilson was told of ongoing efforts of Inglewood Tourism and Development Committee for traffic calming measures in Brooke Street, a campaign started by the Loddon Herald in 2023 that has seen president Peter Moore at the forefront of community efforts to achieve a 40kmh speed zone and now pushing for the installation of flashing speed alert signs.
Board members of Inglewood and District Community Bank briefed Cr Wilson on their offer of $250,000 towards establishment of child care in the town.
Cr Wilson shared a graphic of shire income that showed just 28 per cent came from rates.
She reported on progress with Brooke Street streetscape planning and the recreation reserve masterplan.
Residents raised questions on disabled parking in Brooke Street, planning permits for housing and shire preparation for mandated kindergarten hours from 2026.
“I was really pleased with the turnout and I have some homework to do,” she said.
