Shelby puts another Giorlando on Band’s senior scoresheet

SHELBY Giorlando has joined the big Band, taking her place alongside father Steve in Wedderburn’s senior line-up.
The 16-year-old has swapped hockey stick for cricket bat over the summer, playing up to three games a weekend.
Shelby also is part of the renaissance of Wedderburn’s junior cricket side under the guidance of Bob Steel and plays in the Bendigo women’s competition with Strathdale on Sundays.
The member of Hockey Victoria’s junior development squad, who last year represented Australia in a European tournament, said there were similarities between the two sports.
“It’s all about hand and eye co-ordination and making sure they are working,” Shelby said after her first senior appearance against Kingower.
And last Saturday against Arnold, Shelby put down one over, not conceding any runs.
Also on the field was Arnold’s Georgia Hancock who made three not out with the bat. She took her place on the field alongside brother Campbell.
Georgia is also playing Saturday morning junior cricket in the Bridgewater side after Arnold was unable to raise an under 17 side in the Upper Loddon association this season.
