Fire tragedy: Child dies in caravan fire

Police are investigating the a fatal fire in Boort this evening that has claimed the life of a child.

Emergency services, including local fire brigade units were called Lake View Street about 5.50pm. Lake View Street, near St Andrew's Anglican Church, and the street remains closed to traffic tonight.

Police said fire crews extinguished the blaze and a found a child inside the caravan...

They said the Arson and Explosives Squad had been notified and an arson chemist would attend the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.

Officers said they were aware of the impact that such a tragic incident had on family, community members and first responders and would ensure that welfare services are in place.
